This week I read One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake.

Review after the cut! (It’s the second in a series so there will be spoilers for the first book)

Review after the cut! (It’s the second in a series so there will be spoilers for the first book)
Since my last check-in I finished two books! The long awaited completion of The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin, and The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.

Reviews/thoughts below the cut
This week I read (listened to) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I had never actually read this one before, despite loving the 2005 movie adaptation!

Like I mentioned in my last check in, I’ve been listening to more audiobooks at work, especially classics that I might have a hard time actually getting through.

It’s been 2 weeks since my last check-in, and I’ve only finished one book. Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott (as an audiobook).

I was given a copy of this as a little girl, that I think was an abridged version. I think something about the description turned me off so I never read it. I’ve started listening to audiobooks at work, and I’m liking listening to classics that I otherwise probably wouldn’t read.

This week I’ll be talking about Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery. I mentioned I was listening to this as an audiobook in last week’s check-in.

I’m not normally a big audiobook person, but I’m working a weird shift by myself at work, so it gets pretty boring and quiet. So I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts and decided to throw some audiobooks in there too!

This week I finished both the books I mentioned I had started in my last check in! The Fire Keeper by J.C. Cervantes and The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert.

The Fire Keeper is based on Maya legends and is a middle grade book meant to give representation. It’s part of the Rick Riordan Presents collection, which I’ve talked about in several of my previous check-ins. This is the second in a series.
The Hazel Wood is a story based
in fairy tales. It follows Alice, whose grandmother wrote a cult classic
collection of fairy tales. When the grandmother dies, Alice and her
mother think they might finally be free of their bad luck curse, and try
and settle down, but the bad luck catches up in the form of Alice’s
mother being kidnapped. Alice has no choice but to turn to a fan of her
grandmother to try and find answers, and her mother.

I switched to working nights and weekends which is my excuse for how late this post is 😅
This past week I read Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli, which I mentioned I was reading in my last check-in. I also read OHSHC Vol 3, but I won’t be talking about that.
